Light pollution obscures the natural light of the stars, disrupts the ecosystem of wildlife, and indicates an overuse of illumination that could be more efficiently directed.

Dark Sky lighting products have been carefully constructed to minimize glare and reduce skyglow, with all products approved by the program sufficiently shielding illumination in order to minimize blue light in the night environment.
